The powerful software of this scanner is one of its advantages. The ability to scan with or without markers (Target) is another benefit. However, to achieve higher levels of accuracy, markers can be used.
In this software, the positioning can be done with high precision by Auto Alignment ability and without the intervention of the operator. In some scanners merging different shots must be done by the operator. Therefore this procedure causes a significant error. The software has a special Merge component, which integrates all shots optimally with a unique algorithm to enhance the accuracy and quality of the 3D model.

The Atra Company’s scanner, due to its high resolution, specialized lenses, has the ability to provide details in all kind of parts such as wood, furniture, turbomachinery and accurate industrial components. In this industries, details and sharp lines in the scan file are very important features and should not be deleted or softened. Because softening of the edges will reduce the quality of the final product.
For example, the lack of accuracy for the blade of a pump, a turbine or a compressor, leads to an error that will decrease the efficiency and performance of the part compared with the original one. Also, the camera’s resolution and the scanner interface also plays an important role in this procedure.
Portability
Portability of the 3D scanner is an essential feature to scan in different environments and different types of parts. Some of the parts are heavy, or due to the sensitivity of the work or the lack of time, cannot be carried, and the scanning procedure must be done in site. The Atra Scanner, due to its portability and its low weight, can be present at the site and in a short time scan the mechanical part. The total scanning process takes between 5 and 7 seconds for each shot. Each shot contains one million and three hundred thousand coordinate points from the surface of the work piece.

Possibility to connect to a photogrammetry camera
To accurately scan large parts (car body, ship, aircraft, etc.) and reduce error, the scanner must have the following two capabilities:
- The scanner must have the ability to scan large pieces accurately.
- The software must have the ability to support and connect to the photogrammetry cameras.
Scanners for scanning very large parts have the ability to support and connect photogrammetry camera’s data to the software. The Atra Company’s scanner, with both features listed, is capable of scanning large parts as well as small pieces.

Ability to connect to Geomagic Studio software with the least error
To edit point cloud, the operator can import the scanner software output into the Geomagic software space. Due to the type of the used mesh by the scanner software, the output file has less error. So, with the professional editing done in Geomagic Studio, the operator can import the point cloud to the Catia software environment or generate the G-code for the CNC machines.
