Research Projects

Atra Technical Engineering and Research Company, based on years of experience in organizing training courses and consulting services related to specialized mechanical engineering software, as well as implementation of dozens of research and industrial projects, are ready to perform the research projects and analysis - simulating using powerful software packages such as Ansys, Fluent, Abaqus, Aspen, EES, Matlab, Fortran.

In recent years, competition for better and higher quality products is increasing day by day. In the meantime, simulation and modeling software packages have created a special place in the process of building many products. As we know, in recent years, many advances have been made in the field of computer hardware. This advances in processing power increase the efficiency of simulation softwares because the performance of this softwares is directly related to the hardware of the system. However, the commercialization of these softwares requires that the result of the analysis is always the output of the software, even in the case of inappropriate and misleading analysis. In other words, in the absence of scientific vision or experimental results, one can not trust the results of the softwares.

The world class standards used to simulate centrifuge pumps and fabricate parts by Atra are as follows.

API STD 610; Centrifugal Pumps for Petroleum, Petrochemical and Natural Gas Industries

All necessities for centrifuge pumps for use in the following industries; petroleum, petrochemicals and natural gas, hydrocarbon processes, crude oil transfer, pipelines, high pressure boosting systems, power plants, boiler feeders and reverse osmosis systems

ISO 9908; Technical specifications for centrifugal pumps -- Class III

Necessary requirements and technical specifications of single-stage, multi-stage, horizontal or vertical centrifugal pumps.

This standard is suitable for pumps with low discharge head and flow rate.

ISO 5199; Technical specifications for centrifugal pumps — Class II

Molding Patterns (Casting Patterns)

Atra Co., equipped with design, manufacture and quality control components, declares its readiness for manufacturing molding patterns for almost all kind of mechanical parts.

The main activities of the Atra Company’s Modeling Group are as follows:

  • Three-dimensional design of the part by the professional softwares.
  • Three-dimensional scanning and preparation of point cloud files by scanner software and softwares such as Geomagic.
  • Creating 3D files in design softwares such as Catia, SolidWorks.
  • Creating a casting model in 3D designing software.
  • Creating two dimensional drawings or generating G-Code file for CNC machines.
  • Making a mold (casting) by wood or aluminum.
  • Casting according to desired material.

A notable point in designing casting models for molding is that the model should be made in such a way as to match the casting conditions. Since Atra Company has a vast experience in producing parts for casting, it is well aware of the requirements and limitations of molding, and so the models made by this company can easily be produced in factories and workshops that make molding manual and semi-automatic.

  • This unit with an experienced team and world class machines and instruments, manufacturers a variety of molding patterns, as follows:
    Turbo-machinery components (all parts with molding pattern)

It should be noted that all stages of the preparation of the model are carried out in the company. The primary model is made of compact polystyrene foam or special wood for modeling by CNC machines. Then, using this cast aluminum model, it is manufactured and made the final model by CNC machines.

Moulding Core and Cavitiy – Preform

Moulding Core and Cavities are used in injection moulding producing parts by injecting molten material into a mould. This kind of moulding can be performed with very different materials like aluminum and magnesium alloys (die casting), thermoplastics, glasses and elastomers. Atra Company, based on the experience and knowledge of its experts, utilizes world class machines and specialized softwares in the field of design and reverse engineering, manufactures moulding core and cavities as follows;

 

Steps of work

The steps in the Atra mold manufacturing unit are as follows:

  • The initial design of the mold creates based on a sample part or a technical plan, by the design software.
  • If the goal is reverse engineering from an existing mold, reverse engineering process will be done.
  • The cost and the duration of the manufacturing of the mold according to the type of materials that must be used, are calculated and estimated.
  • The mold design is done in 3D softwares.
  • The prototype of the workpiece can be prepared before the manufacture of the mold with the use of 3D plastic printer technology to check the design of the workpiece and final approval.
  • Making of mold is done during the processes of turning, milling, heat treatment, grinding and electric discharge machining.
  • Testing and controlling the mold and work piece and delivering the final mold.

Die Casting Mold Cavity; for different kind of materials and alloys, like Aluminum and Magnesium alloys. This kind of cavities have a wide range of applications in different industries. Some of die casting applications are car components (like seatbelt parts, headlight parts, engine crankcase and torque converter parts), shell housings (like transmission case housing, electric motor housing) and heat exchanger parts (like inline heat exchangers and boiler components).

Blowing is used for plastic parts like bottles or other hollow shapes. The blow molding process normally uses a preform and compressed air, and through the preform hole, compressed air shapes the part.

Three dimensional scanning without dimensional limit

Most of the other scanners have a certain range of dimensional sizes for accurate scanning so that for larger or smaller parts of the range, scanning will be with a large error and significant details will be lost. One of the advantages of the Atra Company’s scanner is the availability of specialized lenses and the ability to adjust lenses in different situations on the scanner. This feature allows the operator to scan parts of different sizes with high precision and detail.

Powerful Software (Scan with or without Markers)

The powerful software of this scanner is one of its advantages. The ability to scan with or without markers (Target) is another benefit. However, to achieve higher levels of accuracy, markers can be used.

In this software, the positioning can be done with high precision by Auto Alignment ability and without the intervention of the operator. In some scanners merging different shots must be done by the operator. Therefore this procedure causes a significant error. The software has a special Merge component, which integrates all shots optimally with a unique algorithm to enhance the accuracy and quality of the 3D model.

Providing a high level of details

The Atra Company’s scanner, due to its high resolution, specialized lenses, has the ability to provide details in all kind of parts such as wood, furniture, turbomachinery and accurate industrial components. In this industries, details and sharp lines in the scan file are very important features and should not be deleted or softened. Because softening of the edges will reduce the quality of the final product.

For example, the lack of accuracy for the blade of a pump, a turbine or a compressor, leads to an error that will decrease the efficiency and performance of the part compared with the original one. Also, the camera's resolution and the scanner interface also plays an important role in this procedure.

Portability

Portability of the 3D scanner is an essential feature to scan in different environments and different types of parts. Some of the parts are heavy, or due to the sensitivity of the work or the lack of time, cannot be carried, and the scanning procedure must be done in site. The Atra Scanner, due to its portability and its low weight, can be present at the site and in a short time scan the mechanical part. Unlike scanners or Arm type CMMs, the Atra scanner does not have any limitation on the size of a piece or working space, as shown below.

High Accuracy

The Astra scanner provides excellent accuracy and quality in 3D models due to the use of innovative algorithms based on structured light. Scan Speed

The total scanning process takes between 5 and 7 seconds for each shot. Each shot contains one million and three hundred thousand coordinate points from the surface of the work piece.

Possibility to connect to a photogrammetry camera

To accurately scan large parts (car body, ship, aircraft, etc.) and reduce error, the scanner must have the following two capabilities:

  • The scanner must have the ability to scan large pieces accurately.
  • The software must have the ability to support and connect to the photogrammetry cameras.

Scanners for scanning very large parts have the ability to support and connect photogrammetry camera’s data to the software. The Atra Company’s scanner, with both features listed, is capable of scanning large parts as well as small pieces.

Ability to connect to Geomagic Studio software with the least error

To edit point cloud, the operator can import the scanner software output into the Geomagic software space. Due to the type of the used mesh by the scanner software, the output file has less error. So, with the professional editing done in Geomagic Studio, the operator can import the point cloud to the Catia software environment or generate the G-code for the CNC machines.
